Patient Safety Through Innovation

"From the start Veolia Water Technologies was completely onboard with the vision and objectives we had for our new hospital. We pride ourselves in delivering outstanding services at every level within each of our hospitals and therefore it was crucial for us to'partner' with a company that could deliver on the criteria; Reliability, Personal Service & Backup, Innovation, Functionality & above all Patient Safety. Veolia do not just provide solutions, they also bring a level of confidence and assurance that cannot be understated. We are pleased with just how well this entire project has been executed" Oonagh Ryan, CSSD Manager, St. Vincent's Private Hospital.

St. Vincent's Private Hospital

St. Vincent's Private Hospital (SVPH) was established in 1974 and is located beside St. Vincent's University Hospital. As a private hospital delivering the highest standards of patient care it plays a significant role in the Irish acute hospital sector. In September 2008 construction of a new private hospital commenced on an adjacent site at Herbert Avenue, Dublin 4. This new facility builds on the current private hospital's role as a centre of excellence and a world leader in the delivery of healthcare. The design of the new Clinical Decontamination Unit (CDU) was equally innovative, modern and in-line with the overall calibre of the new facilities.

All hospital wards and departments rely on the services provided by this CDU and the continuous provision of Purified Water is a key requirement for this process. From the outset Veolia Water Technologies offered expert advice & guidance on the best Purified Water System that would meet the hospital's needs into the future. Having experienced difficulties with a previous supplier and given a proven track record in dealing with Veolia Water Technologies, the management team in SVPH chose Veolia for the consultation, design and delivery of their Pure Water requirements. Reliability, Personal Service & Backup, Innovation, Functionality and Patient Safety were key criteria which had to be met at every stage.

A revolutionary Veolia pre-treatment solution provides the hot & cold water for the CDU Department as well as feeding directly to an Osiris 600/500 which supplies purified water to a stainless steel loop servicing the 3 Getinge autoclaves and 2 Getinge washer disinfectors located in the CDU Department.

Key Benefits

The Veolia Osiris utilises the latest in reverse osmosis & ultra filtration technology to produce high quality purified water to ensure optimum cleanliness of all medical devices. The use of pre-heated water in combination with low energy membranes enables optimised flow-rates up to 1200 litres per hour for minimum membrane area and lower operating costs. With automatic hot water disinfection at 80°C, this packaged, skid-mounted system is equipped with a user friendly integrated control system with a fully automated disinfection process.

This solution is ideal for Sterile Services boasting a number of advantages including:

  1. High flow rates
  2. Reliability & economic operation
  3. Robust stainless steel
  4. Fully automatic disinfection process
  5. Hygienic sampling point
  6. Remote mounted status panel
  7. On-going patient safety

The CDU Department in St. Vincent's Private Hospital is today ideally poised to continue meeting with their regulatory requirements and their wider service demands well into the future.
